I am a music graduate from the University of Surrey, specialising in the flute and I have been fortunate enough to have had wonderful opportunities for musical learning and development including having taken part in James Galway's 7th Annual Flute Seminar in Switzerland back in 1995, various summer schools and orchestras, and more recently having learnt to improvise and play as a community musician through the Lifemusic Facilitator training.
I offer flute lessons for beginners and intermediate flute players and I teach in the standard classical way, yet with the opportunity to approach your playing light-heartedly, with fun and with an openness to improvisation and other styles of playing. The lessons will be structured around the standard ABRSM graded pieces and playing requirements, but taking the graded examinations is completely your (or your child's) choice and not required in the early stages (and only necessary later on if the individual wishes to pursue a career as a classical musician, enter certain competitions or study music at degree level).
I am based in the Emsworth/Portsmouth areas and I can travel to your home within this area (with a small additional charge for mileage), or alternatively you or your child can come to me. The rates for my flute lessons are £15 for half an hour, £21 for 45 minutes or £25 for an hour. Although my flute can be tried out for the initial lesson, it is necessary that a child or student has their own flute to practise on and with which they can become familiar. Children usually start learning the flute at around age 7 - 9.
I can recommend good flute shops and flute makes to try. Hire of beginners' flutes can start at around £12 per month (for a special waveline or curved headjoint flute for younger children) and very reasonable credit schemes for purchasing a student flute via a monthly payment are offered in the main flute and music shops.
Please get in touch if you'd like to arrange an initial half an hour consultation/lesson (£15) for you or your child, where we can get to know each other a little, discuss your requirements and go through any queries you may have. Call 07447 026 527 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
